Update on the “Speeding in Westgate” initiative and WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK!
After numerous complaints to the Westgate Community Association (WCA) about speeding along Mallow Hill Road, going back as far as 2017, the WCA board reached out to the city to raise the speed bumps/add speed bumps. After repeated attempts to work with DOT that incurred little in the way of results, Councilman Burnett recommended the Slow Streets program. Thanks to your support for the initiative, the WCA submitted an application to the city and it was approved.
The program has been in place for a few days now and the Westgate Community Association would like your feedback. If you are happy with the program, please comment. If you have seen less speeding, please comment. If you have seen NO reduction in speeding, please comment. If you have constructive criticism, please comment. As the lead for the Community Association board on the “Speeding in Westgate” initiative, I plan to take your feedback back to the Slow Streets program so they can improve the program as well as make any needed adjustments to the program at large, as well as how it is being implemented along Mallow Hill. Please respond by 9 AM on September 30. Responses can be sent by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Secondly, after many parked cars were hit by speeding traffic along Frederick Road, there is now a speed camera along the 5500 block of Frederick Road. Per DOT: Please be advised that The Department of Transportation has concluded the investigation of the 5500 blocks of Frederick Avenue and determined that the best course of action for this location will be to install Speed Cameras both Eastbound and Westbound. Our team is working to get the cameras installed by September 7, 2020. The installation timeline depends on material shipments and weather. We understand the severity of the issues at this location and are working diligently to get this resolved. Please continue to be as patient as possible while we work through the process to get this work completed.
The Westgate neighborhood in southwest Baltimore features an eclectic mix of vintage homes situated on tree-lined streets including bungalows, cottages, American Foursquares, Tudors, and Dutch Colonials from the 1920’s to 30’s. We are a welcoming, active, and diverse community with homes situated in rolling hills featuring mature tree canopies and narrow streets with sidewalks.
